The name of the person in the picture is Thomas Raja who was born in North Tamil Nadu, India. He got involved with the criminal world at a very young age.Snatching money,getting drunk and fighting with others were all his daily activities. He even stoled things from his own house for his needs.In addition to his parents, his neighbors were unhappy with his daily abuse.He was even expelled by his parents from his own home due to his bad activities. But after that he became more reckless as there was no restraint before him.

Gradually, he joined various criminal gangs and became involved in various anti-social activities. He was barely 16years old when he was caught by the police while committing a criminal act. He was then sent to a correctional home for a month.This was the turning point in his life. He decided to do something good in future. He got out of correctional home and bought an auto rickshaw from his savings.A new lifestyle begins in his life.From then on standing beside the helpless,mentally suffered,orphan was his only swear of his life.

Then on Thomas became a legend of humanity. He used to feel very sad seeing poor, mentally unbalanced people on the side of the road. He used to stop his auto and bring them to his own house to serve them. He used to feed and serve them with what he earned by driving ahis auto. In this way he has been working for 20 long years. He is helping to smile among thousands of poor and distress people around his surroundings.

The man who once was a living terror to everyone has become the pride of the whole country today.He has received many recognitions and endless love of people, especially from the mentally retarded people. Long live Thomas, you are the image of true humanity.

অটো রাজা 

আমাদের মধ্যে অনেকেরই দস্যু রত্নাকরের কথা অল্প বিস্তর জানা আছে।একথাও আমাদের জানা আছে এই রত্নাকর পরবর্তী সময়ে মহাকাব্য রামায়ণের রচনা করেন।আসুন আজ আমরা দেশের এক আধুনিক দস্যূ রত্নাকরের কথা জানবো।যিনি তার প্রথম জীবনে কুসঙ্গে জড়িয়ে পড়েও নিজের বিবেকের তাড়নায় নিজেকে সম্পূর্ণ শুদ্ধ করে আজ হাজার হাজার মানুষের পরম আশ্রয়দাতা। আসুন সেই আধুনিক রত্নাকরের কিছু জীবনদর্শন আমরা দেখে নিই।

ছবিতে এই ব্যক্তির নাম হলো থমাস রাজা যিনি ভারতের উত্তর তামিলনাড়ুতে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছেন।খুব ছোটবেলাতেই তার  অপরাধ জগতের সঙ্গে পরিচয় ঘটেছিলো।চুরি,ছিনতাই ,মারপিট এগুলি ছিল তার নিত্য সঙ্গী।পড়াশুনায় তার কোনো মন ছিল না।সহপাঠীদের জিনিস চুরি করা,বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে মারপিট করে তাদের টাকা নেওয়া,নেশা করা ছিল তার নিত্যদিনের কাজ।এমনকি নিজের ঘরের জিনিসও  চুরি করতো।মা-বাবা ছাড়াও প্রতিবেশীরা তার প্রত্যেক দিনের অত্যাচারে অতিষ্ঠ থাকতো।যত দিন গেছে টমাস রাজা এইসকল বিদ্যায় আরো কুখ্যাত হয়ে উঠলো।শেষে অতিষ্ঠ হয়ে এক দিন তাকে ঘর থেকে বের করে দেওয়া হলো।কিন্তু এর পরে কোনো বাঁধন না থাকায় সে আরো বেপরোয়া হয়ে উঠলো।

ক্রমে সে বিভিন্ন দুষ্কৃতী দলে যোগ দিয়ে নানা অসামাজিক কাজে জড়িয়ে পড়লো।বয়স তখন সবে ১৬।কোনো এক অপরাধমূলক কাজ করার সময়ে সে পুলিশের হাতে ধরা পরে।এরপর তাকে ১ মাসের জন্যে সংশোধনাগারে পাঠানো হয়।এই সময়টাই তার জীবনে এক সন্ধিক্ষণ।সেই সময়েই সে নিজের মনকে ঠিক করে নেন আগামী দিনে কোনো ভালো কাজ করার জন্যে।জেল থেকে বেড়িয়ে নিজের জমানো টাকা দিয়ে কিনে ফেলেন একটি অটো।শুরু হয় এক অন্য অধ্যায়।রাস্তায় পরে থাকা দুঃস্থদের পাশে দাঁড়ানোটা তার ব্রত  হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।

 

পরিবর্তিত টমাস রাজা হয়ে ওঠেন মানবিক।রাস্তার পাশে দূঃস্থ,মানসিক ভারসাম্যহীন মানুষদের দেখলে তার খুব কষ্ট হতো।অটো থামিয়ে তাদের নিজের ঘরে এনে সেবা করতো।অটো চালিয়ে যা রোজগার হতো তা দিয়েই তাদের খাওয়া ও সেবার কাজ চলতো।এভাবেই দীর্ঘ ২০ বছর ধরে তিনি কাজ করে চলেছেন।হাজার হাজার দুঃস্থদের মধ্যে তিনি হাসি ফুটিয়ে চলেছেন।

একদিনের যে ব্যক্তি সকলের কাছে ছিল জীবন্ত ত্রাস সেই আজ সমগ্র দেশের গর্ব হয়ে উঠেছেন।পেয়েছেন অনেক স্বীকৃতি ও মানুষের বিশেষ করে প্রান্তিক মানুষের অফুরন্ত ভালোবাসা।ধন্য থমাস ,তুমিই প্রকৃত মানবতার প্রতীক।
