Air Indias 'Royal Mascot'
Let's get acquainted today with a king who is very dear to all of us. Although this king's outfit is royal, he is not a 'majestic personality'.Even though he is old, the king's huge mustache has not changed. His red sherwani and striped turban still have no folds. From 1947 till today, he has been entertaining the passengers with humility. For those who have not yet understood, I would say that this Maharaja is our national pride Air India's 'mascot' of the internationally renowned Indian state-owned airline.
So this Maharaja turned 75 years old this year. The birth of Maharaja took place in British ruled India. He was born in the hands of Bobby Kuka, the then commercial director of Air India, and Umesh Rao, a well-known advertising artist in Bombay at the time. There seems to have been a special way of making such a mascot. It seems that because at that time India was the land of 'kings' in the eyes of the western countries. Then the country became independent in 1947 but the Maharaja remained with the same dignity. At first the mascot was drawn only for the letterhead of Air India but later the king appeared in various advertisements and grand promotions. Later, the Maharaja's splendor spread to different countries and cities. From the Eiffel Tower to the Statue of Liberty, in Russia Maharaja is seen in Kalinka dancing or sometimes helping to wear the dresses to a naked child at famous 'Maneken Peace' in Brussels.
Again, he rode his bicycle on the soil of the country and appeared in the parliament building. Like many other popular Amul girls in our country, he always wore new outfits. For this the Maharaja also received many international awards. There has been a lot of controversy at one time about the use of the Maharaja as the mascot of Indian airlines, but in the meantime the Maharaja has a place of love in the hearts of every Indians.
However, the Maharaja is perhaps a little upset that he is not able to keep up with the times. At this very moment, many private airlines in the country have put Air India and the Maharaja in a bit of trouble. But we all hope that the mascot glory will remain intact if we all take the right plan and timely service to remain in the market.
