Today we will tell the story of a well whose mouth is huge and deep but waterless. What else can you think of a huge well? But if you know that for a long time it was known to the world as the 'well of hell', then it carries a different dimension.With it  we will also get to know one side of human superstition and reality.

As you can see from the picture above, the well is quite large. The well is about 100 feet wide, 112 meters or 367 feet deep and the well is so deep that a proof-sized 30-story house can easily be entered. The well is located in the province of Al-Mahar in the West Asian country of Yemen.The Yemenis are afraid to go near it or even take its name.They believe that if they go to the well, the jinn or the devil will drag them inside.

There is of course a basis for their notion of this dark well. There are some tales regarding some fictitious character that have been going on for hundreds of years in which this well has been shown as a 'prison of the jinn'. Their idea is that such a well has been built to capture the evil jinn. Not only that, death is certain if you enter this well. However, they did not show much enthusiasm in determining his truth. From the very beginning, geologists were eager to know what was inside the hole.

However, 10 cavemen from Oman took part in the well expedition to find out the truth of all their reforms. 8 of them entered the deep well. They did not find any jin or see any prison there. However, they get a special smell. It is estimated that many animals, birds died in the well, such a smell may be. They have collected soil, water, rocks, etc. from there to be more sure.

A kind of bright green round stone has been found at the bottom of the cave. Although many of the greens are pearl to look at, it is believed that they are formed from the calcium of rain water. Some limestone has also been found.The biggest thing is that the end of conventional superstitions has been possible.

According to cavemen, such a cave is called a 'sinkhole'.Usually, a hole is formed when the rock deposited in the water beneath the surface slowly dissolves and its quite natural. There is no reason for misfortune or panic with this.

নরকের কূপ 

আসুন আজ আমরা একটা কূপের গল্প করবো যা মুখ বিশাল ও গভীর কিন্তু জলহীন।আপনাদের মনে হতে পারে একটি বিশাল কূপের আর কি গল্প হতে পারে? কিন্তু যদি জানেন যে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বিশ্ববাসীর কাছে তা 'নরকের কূপ' নাম পরিচিত ছিল তবে তা আলাদা একটা মাত্রা বহন করে বৈকি।তার সঙ্গে মানুষের কুসংস্কার ও বাস্তবতার একটি দিকেরও পরিচয় আমরা পেয়ে যাবো।

উপরের ছবিটি দেখে নিশ্চই বুঝতে পারছেন কূপটি বেশ বড়ো।কূপটি প্রায় ১০০ ফুট চওড়া ,গভীরতা ১১২ মিটার বা ৩৬৭ ফুট এবং কূপটি এতটাই গভীর যে একটি প্রমান সাইজের ৩০ তলা বাড়ি অনায়াসে ঢুকে যেতে পারে।কূপটি আছে পশ্চিম এশিয়ার ইয়েমেন দেশের আল-মাহার প্রদেশে।যদিও ইয়েমেনিরা এর কাছে বা তার নামও নিতে ভয় পায়।তাদের বিশ্বাস যে কূপের কাছে গেলে তাদের জিন বা শয়তান ভিতরে টেনে নেবে। 

এই অন্ধকূপ নিয়ে তাদের এইরূপ ধারণার অবশ্য একটা ভিত্তি আছে।তা হলো কয়েকশো বছর  চলে আসা প্রচলিত কিছু উপকথা যার মধ্যে এই কূপকে 'জিনদের কারাগার' হিসাবে দেখানো হয়েছে।তাদের ধারণা দুষ্ট জিনদের বন্দি করতেই এরূপ কূপ গঠন করা হয়েছে।শুধু তাই নয় এ কূপে ঢুকলে মৃত্যু নিশ্চিত।যদিও তার সত্য নির্ধারণে তারা খুব একটা উৎসাহ দেখায়নি। গর্তের ভিতরে কি আছে তা জানতে বরাবর ভূতাত্বিকতরা প্রথ থেকেই উৎসাহী ছিলেন। 

তবে ওমানের ১০ জন গুহাবিদ তাদের সমস্ত সংস্কার মন থেকে মুছে এর সত্যতা জানতে এই কূপ অভিযানে অংশ নেন।এদের মধ্যে ৮ জন গভীর কূপে প্রবেশ করেন।না তারা কোনো জিনের  পাননি বা কোনো কারাগারও দেখতে পাননি।তবে তারা এক বিশেষ গন্ধের পরিচয় পান।অনুমান অনেক পশু,পাখি কূপের মধ্যে মারা যাওয়ায় এরূপ গন্ধ হতে পারে।তারা আরো নিশ্চিত হতে সেখান থেকে মাটি,জল ,পাথর ইত্যাদি সংগ্রহ করেছে।

গুহার নিচে একধরণের উজ্জ্বল সবুজ গোল পাথরের সন্ধান পাওয়া গেছে।দেখতে অনেকটা সবুজ মুক্ত হলেও এগুলি বৃষ্টির জলের ক্যালসিয়াম থেকে সৃষ্টি হয়েছে বলে অনুমান।কিছু চুনাপাথরের সন্ধানও পাওয়া গেছে।তবে সবচেয়ে বড়ো ব্যাপার হলো প্রচলিত কুসংস্কারের সমাপ্তি সম্ভব হয়েছে।

গুহাবিদদের কথায় এধরনের গুহাকে 'সিঙ্কহোল '  বলা হয়।সাধারণত ভুপৃষ্টের নিচে জলে জমে থাকা পাথর ধীরে ধীরে দ্রবীভূত হলে এমন গর্ত তৈরী হয়ে থাকে।এর সঙ্গে দুর্ভাগ্য বা আতঙ্কের কোনো কারণ নেই।যাক শেষ পর্যন্ত আরো একবার সত্য তথা বিজ্ঞানের জয়ই হলো।
