A similar tragedy happened a couple of days ago in front of all of us. I would like to share with you a few words about the tragic death of 9 people in a devastating fire at the Eastern Railway headquarters on Strand Road a couple of days ago.
Well, tell me, how many more lives will have to end prematurely? Imagine a firefighting system in an important central government institution where hundreds of railway workers work and hundreds of other people are constantly on the move was not adequate to fight against such a disaster. There was no need to lose so many lives if the building map was received at the right time, the risk of life could be reduced by going through the right position to move very quickly and the water supply could be decided quickly.
Another question that strikes us is whether all the firefighters who were present that day were equally skilled in such a situation. Because what we have learned from the media is alarming enough. মানুষ যে মরণশীল তা আমরা সকলেই জানি,তা সত্ত্বেও কারোর মৃত্যুই আমাদের শোকাতুর করে তোলে।কিন্তু আমাদের চারিপাশে এমন কিছু মৃত্যু ঘটে যা আমাদের কাছে অনেক প্রশ্নও রেখে যায়।তেমনই একটি মর্মান্তিক ঘটনা দিনদুয়েক আগেই আমাদের সকলের সামনেই ঘটে গেলো।হ্যাঁ,ঠিকই ধরেছেন আমি আজ আপনাদের সঙ্গে দিনদুয়েক আগে স্ট্র্যান্ড রোডে অবস্থিত পূর্ব রেলের সদর যে বিধ্বংসি আগুন লেগে ৯ জনের মর্মান্তিক মৃত্যু হয় তা নিয়েই কিছু কথা আপনাদের সঙ্গে শেয়ার করতে চাই।
আচ্ছা বলুন তো আর কত প্রাণকে এভাবে আমাদের অকালে ঝরে পড়তে হবে? ভাবা যায়!কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রতিষ্ঠান সেখানে অগ্নিনির্বাপক ব্যবস্থা যথেষ্ট নয়,যেখানে কয়েকশো রেলকর্মী কাজ করেন ও তারও বাইরে কয়েকশো লোকের নিত্য আনাগোনা সেখানেই এরকম নিরাপত্তার ঢিলেমি।শুধু কি তাই,এরকম একটা বহুতল বিল্ডিংয়ের প্রাথমিক নকশা পর্যন্ত পাওয়া যায় নি ,পেলে হয়তো এতগুলো প্রাণ হারাতে হতো না।কারণ নকশা সঠিক সময়ে পেলে খুব দ্রুত কোন জায়গা দিয়ে গেলে প্রাণের ঝুঁকি কম করা যায় তা সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া বা জলের ব্যবস্থা দ্রুত করা যেত।
আরও একটা প্রশ্ন আমাদের নাড়িয়ে দেয় ,যে যেসকল দমকল কর্মীরা সেদিন উপস্থিত ছিল তারা সকলেই কী এরকম পরিস্থিতিতে সমান দক্ষ।কারণ সংবাদ মাধ্যম থেকে যেটুকু আমরা জানতে পেরেছি তা যথেষ্ট উদ্বেগজনক।বিশেষ করে অস্থায়ী কর্মী নিয়োগ,উপযুক্ত প্রশিক্ষণের অভাব ও দমকলের আধুনিকীকরণ এর কোনটাই গুরুত্বের সঙ্গে দেখা হয় নি।
তাই আমরা সকলে রাজ্য ও কেন্দ্র সরকারের কাছে এ ব্যাপারে আগামী দিন যাতে গুরুত্ব সহকারে দেখা হয় সেই আশা রাখি,যাতে আর কোনো প্রাণকে এভাবে আমরা না হারাই।
