Today we will know the autobiography of a city which was alive at one time but today its identity can not be seen outside. It is surprising to think that a city full of people and modern civic civilization is a forgotten name today.Even today, houses, beautiful temples and roads can be seen in the alleys of the water-drowned city.Let us know the story.

The submerged city is Xi Cheng, in China's Zhejiang Province. It was the heart of the province's political and economic activity.The question is why there was a need to drown such a city. The fact was that a dam was needed in 1959 to generate hydropower, and it was decided that it would be built on the outskirts of the city.

But the problem was that there was no lake in the province, so an artificial lake was needed. Now the city of Xi Cheng was at the foot of the Five Lions Mountains. The city was surrounded by mountains. So the Chinese government decided to turn the city into an artificial lake. It is centered on the Jinai river.

A dam was built to hold the water and a lake was built at the foot of the mountain. For this lake the whole city went under 130 feet of water. For 62 years the city has been submerged in this way.Roads, temples, houses are all the same as before.All the people were evacuated before the whole thing could be realized.

Surrounded by hills,the city has been easily flooded with water. After the creation of the artificial lake, these hills form to be an island.The dam on which the hydroelectric project was built is called the Jinan Dam and is the first hydroelectric project in China.The city is now known as 'Lion City'.The name is derived from Lion mountain. This chinese city is like a real 'Atlantis'. Tourists can visit this submerged city if they want.

লায়ন সিটি 

আসুন আজ আমরা এমন এক শহরের আত্মকথা জানবো যা কোনো এক সময়ে প্রাণবন্ত থাকলেও আজ আর তার কোনো পরিচয় বাইরে দেখা যায়না।ভাবতে অবাক লাগে মানুষজনে ও আধুনিক নাগরীক সভ্যতায় পরিপূর্ণ একটি শহর আজ এক বিস্মৃত নামমাত্র।জলে ডোবা শহরটির অলিতে গলিতে ঘুরলে আজও বাড়ী,সুন্দর মন্দির,রাস্তাঘাট সকল কিছু চোখে পড়ে।চলুন বিষয়টি সম্পর্কে একটু জেনে নেওয়া যাক।

উপরের ডুবিয়ে দেওয়া শহরটি হলো শি চেং যা চীনের ঝেজিয়াং প্রদেশের মধ্যে পড়ে।শহরটি ছিল সেই প্রদেশের রাজনৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক কর্মকান্ডের প্রাণকেন্দ্র।খুব স্বাভাবিক প্রশ্ন জাগে কি এমন কারণে এই শহরটিকে ডুবিয়ে দেওয়া হলো।আসলে জলবিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদনের জন্যে ১৯৫৯ সালে একটি বাঁধ নির্মাণের প্রয়োজন হয় এবং তা এই শহরের উপকণ্ঠে গড়ে উঠবে বলে সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়।

কিন্তু সমস্যা হয়ে দাঁড়ায় সেই প্রদেশে কোনো হ্রদ ছিল না ,তাই প্রয়োজন হয় কৃত্তিম হ্রদের।এখন শি চেং শহরটি ছিল ফাইভ লায়ন পর্বতের পাদদেশে।শহরটি ছিল চারিদিক পাহাড় দিয়ে ঘেরা।তাই চীন সরকার ঠিক করে এই শহরটিকে কৃত্তিম হ্রদে পরিণত করতে।শহরের মধ্যে দিয়ে বয়ে যাওয়া জিনাই নদীকে কেন্দ্র করে তা গড়ে ওঠে।

জল ধরে রাখার জন্যে বাঁধ নির্মাণ করে সেই পর্বতের পাদদেশে জল ভরে হ্রদ বানিয়ে ফেলা হলো।এই হ্রদের জন্যই পুরো শহরটি জলে ১৩০ ফুট জলের নিচে চলে যায়।৬২ বছর ধরে শহরটি এইভাবেই  জলে ডুবে আছে।রাস্তাঘাট,মন্দির ,ঘরবাড়ী সব আগের মতোই আছে।অবশ্য পুরো বিষয়টি বাস্তব রূপ দেওয়ার আগেই সব নগরবাসীকে নিরাপদে সরিয়ে নেওয়া হয়েছিল। 

চারিদিকে পাহাড় দিয়ে ঘিরে থাকায় শহরটিকে জল দিয়ে ডুবিয়ে দিতে সুবিধা হয়েছে।কৃত্তিম হ্রদ তৈরী হওয়ার পর এই পাহাড়গুলি এক একটি দ্বীপে পরিণত হয়েছে।যে বাঁধটির উপরে জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্পটি নির্মিত হয়েছে তার নাম হয় জিনান বাঁধ এবং এটিই হলো চীনের সর্বপ্রথম জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্পটিজনিত বাঁধ।বর্তমানে  শি চেং শহরটি 'লায়ন সিটি' নাম পরিচিত।লায়ন পর্বত থেকে এইরূপ নামকরণ।চীনের এই শহরটি যেন অনেকটা বাস্তবের 'আটলান্টিস'।জলে নিমজ্জিত শহরটি চাইলে পর্যটকেরা ঘুরতে পারে।
